    Linux itself is the kernel (translation layer between software and hardware), all "Linux "Distributions use the Linux Kernel. Ubuntu is one of hundreds of Linux bases distibutions that is available.

    Each distribution differs based upon their choices of window managers, supported architectures, package managers and their chosen defualt applications.
