The usb720 modem worked well with the live DVD!
So I am assuming that I can now get rid of windows completely,and start getting my friends to change to Linux.
There I go again assuming, First I have to uninstall Felicia, and go through a new and final install of Gloria. This makes me awful happy!

I plugged my Sprint Sierra USB broadband modem into my Ubuntu laptop yesterday, and it was recognized, configured, and connected without any hassle from me at all! I am a happy camper! It was a real PITA to install and configure in Windows and OSX. Ubuntu - you rock! :-)0
