no webcam

It seems that my webcam is not working. I assume that this is because it comes from Sony. Does anyone know of a good, Linux-compatible webcam?

Logitech quickcams have always worked well for me. Use this link: http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html to see what webcams have drivers for use with Linux, and remember, the gspca driver is now incorporated into the Linux kernel since the 2.6.27 kernel was released. This has had some good and bad effects depending on what apps your using to view the webcam stream.

    Hope this helped

Just because it "From Sony" doesnot mean it won't work. It just may take a bit more effort.

There is a tutorial here on linux.com Configuring your webcam to work under Linux

Also can you provide a bit more information on the cam you want to use?

    specific model?

is it usb? if so give us the output of the lsusb command (this will list all the usb devices in your system)
