X crashes on squeeze

system: debian squeeze

desktop: gnome

sometimes, the X crashes unexpected

the only message i found in /var/log/messages:

bonobo-activation-server (atree-5955): could not associate with desktop session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-Hgw94KLmAd

    And that in /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    your video card?
    NVIDIA?

    Try to instal the stable(or older) version of drivers on yours video card!
  • There's always the video card manufacturer binaries.

    I've used those in the past to see what options they use and how they are configured in the xorg.conf file. Then using that update / correct the one that keeps erroring out.

    Assuming xorg.conf is your prob - have you tried generating a temporary xorg.conf and testing X with it?
    X -configure
    
    then
    X -config /root/xorg.conf.new
    

    or such...

    If all else fails copy the xorg.conf from a Ubuntu live CD to your native xorg.conf file in your OS.

    It's worked for me countless times.
