Middle Button not detected on 3 button Trackpoint

Running Ubuntu 16.04, but tested on many other distros. My trackpoint (the little red button in the middle of the keyboard for those that don't know) is only recognized as a two button device rather than three. This means the middle button is not detected at all and is not causing any output from xev or evtest. In windows this worked fine and middle button was set as a scroll button by default. However, windows is no longer installed on this machine (lasted about a half hour total).

In addition, the mouse settings in ubuntu affect the trackpoint, speed etc... which I don't know if it's supposed to work that way.

This is on a brand new Thinkpad e570.
