Re- why can't extract file in ark

I tried to extract a zip file in ark and got a message in Italian which basically read that the parametres of the file are not supported by ark. Is  there any way of solving this problem- maybe by insatllign complementary software, a particular command line etc. I am a very new linux user, so  I need detailed instructions- or a link with a step by step illustrated process.
