Additional Drivers Not Applying

Unsure if this is the right sub-section, but I am unsure as to why I am getting this problem.

I open "Software & Updates", then to the "Additional Drivers" tab to switch my graphics drivers to use NVIDIA drivers, however, when I click "Apply Changes", my selection reverts back to "Using X.Org X server - Nouveau display driver...". Can anyone shed some light on 1. why this is happening, and 2. how to solve the problem?

It depends on what distro your using, but generally speaking, you can't change from using nouveau to using nvidia by GUI package managers. Usually it requires using the command line. And you have optimus, it's even more of a pain.
