heyy D : so im running antiX linux on my used laptop that ive had for 3 years, it usually works fine, but yesterday i decided i wanted to experiment with the desktop environments (LXDE XFCE MATE GNOME), i switched it to xfce and it bugged so i couldnt switch it to anything else and slowed it down, an article suggested to delete gnome and dbus, so i did, and it put my desktop environment in a sort of limbo-esque situation (no taskbar, limited function, no way to close windows bc the windows disappeared). then i rebooted and got grub rescue>, and the solutions people suggest arent pulling any information that could help my pc find normal.mod.
the other option i have is to boot from my live USB, which has antiX on it (ventoy) and has worked many times before, but i get an incompatibility error when i startup and a kernel panic error when i switch it from boot drive to usb drive.
exitcode=0x00007f00
im at a loss, i want to save my data, but id rather save my computer. let me know if you know what to do.
ps sorry for the pics, i cant take screenshots ):

  • Hi,

    The normal.mod not found error suggests GRUB cannot locate its modules. Since (hd0,gpt1) is FAT and (hd0,gpt2) shows an unknown filesystem, I would avoid reinstalling anything until you check the partitions.

    First, boot a fresh antiX or Debian live USB directly, without Ventoy, and confirm the BIOS boot mode matches the original installation.

    Once booted, run lsblk -f to identify the Linux partition and check the drive's health. Back up your important files before attempting repairs.

    If the filesystem is accessible, you can then repair GRUB from the live environment. The correct commands depend on whether the installation uses BIOS or UEFI.

    The kernel panic on the USB may be a separate issue, so I'd also try another USB drive or ISO.

    Please share the output of lsblk -f before making changes. That will help identify the safest next step.
