How to migrate Thunderbird MBOX files to Google Workspace?

Migrating Thunderbird MBOX files to a Google Workspace account can be a little confusing at first because Google Workspace Gmail does not support direct MBOX imports. I faced the same issue when I wanted to move my old Mozilla Thunderbird mailbox data into my business Gmail account. Initially, I tried uploading the MBOX files directly, but Gmail could not recognize them.
After some trial and error, I found that the manual method works through IMAP synchronization. First, I connected my Google Workspace Gmail account to Thunderbird using IMAP settings. Then, I used the ImportExportTools NG add-on to import the Thunderbird MBOX files into Thunderbird. Once the folders appeared, I dragged the emails into the synced Gmail folders. Thunderbird automatically uploaded all emails to the Google Workspace server.

    You can definitely do this manually, but honestly it becomes pretty time-consuming once the MBOX files are large or you have multiple Thunderbird folders to migrate. Most users usually connect their Google Workspace account in Thunderbird through IMAP, import the MBOX files using ImportExportTools NG, and then drag folders into Gmail for syncing. It works, but there are a lot of chances for sync issues, duplicate emails, crashes, or incomplete uploads with big mailboxes.
