New to Linux, done with Microsoft and Apple

I'm simply done with anything Microsoft and Apple. I want to own my computer. After all, I paid for it. Looking forward to learning the skills I need to control my own environment. I need practical skills with the basics. I want to understand file systems, drive management, and how to monitor these things. I want to understand how to move things around without breaking stuff. I want to gain all of the skills I used to have in older Windows systems. I want to feel like I understand and know what is happening and why.
