Guidance Before Making Purchase

Hello all,

I asked the following question to LF Education Customer Support, and I was directed to the class forum for the best response:

My question is more along the lines of research, and doing my due diligence before I commit to a purchase. I am looking at the offerings in the IT Professional Program, specifically the Cloud Engineer IT Professional Program, and the DevOps IT Professional Program. I am not new to cloud computing, as I currently hold the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certifications. However, I am new to Linux. I realize that having some familiarity and proficiency in Linux is going to be required for a successful career working in the cloud.

With all of that said, here is my question: between the Cloud Engineer and DevOps programs, which is going to be the most beneficial for someone who has familiarity with cloud computing but wants to gain the skills to actually work in it? Again, I want to have all the information possible before I make a purchase and then find out that I have made not necessarily the “wrong” purchase, but maybe not the most suitable purchase for my situation.

Please, please do not hesitate to reach out to me if there are any questions, or if more information/context is needed.

Thanks,

Richard Gude

    Hi Richard,

I think it would be very useful to grow a cloud computing career and also develop a DevOps career to include Linux as a base, because almost everything will lead you to install, configure and troubleshoot different kind of software in the command line. So, I'd suggest to start by the Cloud Engineer IT Professional Program, because it includes Linux System Administration Essentials (LFS207) and Linux for Cloud Technicians Essentials (LFS203), which will give you a good base to deal and work with Linux.

After that if you want to know more about DevOps, you can take the DevOps IT Professional Program, as you will be prepared to install and configure all the software tools you need in the command line.

    I hope that helps.

    Regards,
    Luis.
