Some questions about section 2.

Hi.

Regarding the WAN slide (4 of 6) in section 2:

1) Are nodes A2,B3,B1,C3 routers or PC's?

2) Where is says 'wan link 192.168.7.0/24' is this just referring to a cable between the nodes or some other hardware?

In the quiz, when it says 'The device that connects two different Layer 3 domains is commonly called a... router'. Is 'layer 3 domains' just another way of saying IP addresses?

Thanks.

    Hi WarrenUK,
    1) The systems that are in more than one network can act as routers. Consider routing a function not a machine, so yes the pc's can be routers.
    2) the message : "wan link 192.168.7.0/24 " is indicating the subnet being used by that specific connection.
    3) Yes, in this instance, layer3 is the ip address.

    Thanks Lee.

So those PC's that act as router will use their routing tables to pass the packets from one LAN to the next? If it is not in their routing table it will go to the default route?

Yes, if there is a specific routing table entry, the packet will be forwarded as instructed, if not it will use the default route.
