New to Linux! Can't get sound to work?? (Student Learning)

Hello everyone, i'm very new to linux and i'm currently using Linux kali as it's the version of linux i need to use for my studies with learningpeople.

I'm having some trouble getting my sound to work, i've gone into the sound settings and on "output" there doesn't seem to be anything displayed in there? it says "choose a deivce" and theres no devices listed? (i'm trying to play through my headphones)

The laptop i'm using is: HP Pavilion G series.

Any help would be greately appreciated! As i said i'm very new to linux but i look forward to learning!
