How to modify /etc/services?

Do I have to edit it manually, or there's a command to modify it?

  • tommy,

You would edit it manually with a text editor such as vim, nano, emacs, kate etc.

Like many other aspects of UNIX-like systems Wikipedia has a decent quick reference page on /etc/services (inetd):

That is if they follow init.d ;)

Archlinux, for example, works ala BSD: /etc/rc.d/ ....
  • Semantics semantics Marc :P

But yes that could differ, someone would have to let us know what distro they were using before we could help further though :P

You are totally right, it's just that one of the main (strong for me) points of Archlinux is the BSD script way ;)
